Athanata Arts took part in the 2006 Book Summit round table held at the Small Press Center in Manhattan on Sept. 27th as a representative of the Independent Publishing industry.
Moderated by Bill Frank and directed by Dan Poynter, the topics addressed included: the impact and future of e-books; establishing the "authority" of the author; trends in digital printing; distribution and the role of meta-data; the influence of Google's Book Search™ program; and a demonstration of the new Sony® Reader.
The Summit affirmed our direction in proceeding to develop new titles which will lend themselves to future trends in distribution. Look for e-book and audio versions, color interiors, and wider distribution. As an independent press, we will be acting more quickly, and with greater agility, in employing the new trends discussed at the Summit.
We were also glad to introduce the panelists to Some Holy Weight in the Village Air. With our presence at the Summit, Athanata is taking a further step in integrating the professional, business, and artistic communities as part of its interdisciplinary mission.
